The markets lost significantly today with banking, metal and oil & gas playing lead roles in pulling the indices down. Auto, FMCG and realty, too, traded weak and capital goods and power were the only two sectors that closed positive. The Sensex closed at 15728, down 146 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 4706, down 45 points. The CNX Midcap index closed with 1% loss while the BSE Smallcap index was down 1.1% in today's trade. The market breadth was negative with advances at 394 against declines of 889 on the NSE. The top Nifty gainers were BHEL, NTPC, Tata Power and Power Grid while the biggest losers includedJindal Steel, PNB, ICICI Bank and Cairn India.
