Today's Market Review - 29th December 2011

On the last F&O expiry of 2011, the market witnessed thin volumes, but significant volatility. The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex and National Stock Exchange Nifty tried to enter the positive zone, but failed miserably and ended near the days lows. Sensex closed at 15,543.93, down 183.92 points or 1.17% from the previous close. Nifty shut shop at 4,646.25, down 59.55 points or 1.27%. The BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices lost 0.35% and 0.74% respectively. Oil & gas and capital goods were the biggest losers among sectors. From the 13 BSE sectoral indices, only two (metal and healthcare) closed in green. Sensex gainers were Jindal Steel, SBI, Sterlite Ind, Hindalco, Wipro and HUL. On the other hand, Maruti, BHEL, RIL, Tata Power and DLF were among the major losers, all down over 3% each.
